Do you know any of these men?

The photo shows a party of Parkinsons Ltd employees about to set off on a works outing, dated 10th October 1936.  If you know anyone in this picture, please let me know.

In fact, I'd be pleased to hear from any former employees, or their descendants, who might have photos or reminiscences they'd like to share.

  1. Hi,
The man standing third from the left is my grandfather, Norman Parkinson, brother of Allan and Gilbert, son of Thomas and Annie. He died in 1963. The man on the far right looks like a Parkinson, too but I have no idea who he is. The man in glasses who appears to be peeping out (seventh from left on the back row) is in the Parkinson Factory film and I believe he was a supervisor but I don't know any more than that, sorry.

  2. I worked at Parkinsons from 1962 till 1967 I started in the warehouse then moved to the laboratory working with Syd who was the chief chemist and was just about to retire, Alan Stuttard then took over as chief chemist. As regards to the photo the only face i think i recognise is on the front row fourth from the left, i think his name is Allan Smith who when i was there was manager of the warehouse.
I will try and put a photo up that was taken at Syd's retirement party when i get onto my computer.
    Peter Gonczarow.

    1. Hullo Peter. Thanks for that. Any sign of that photo yet? (Sorry it's taken me so long to notice your message ~ I'm not very observant.)

  3. I worked at Parkinsons on leaving school. This would be about 1968 when I started. I worked at packing pills and ointment jars in boxes and then later worked on the aisle which dealt with sales reps travel cases. This involved re-stocked their sample cases by sending noted down a hoist to the ground floor and the products being sent back up. A girl called Caroline did this job before me. Also there at the time were two women, both called Sheila. I don`t know their last names but I think one lived in Cliviger and the other in Burnley. There was also a bloke called Bill who worked between floors but mainly on the 3rd floor. When the machine that packed the Kil Kof pastelles was running it was Bill who emptied the pastilles into a hopper or something on the third floor and they came down into the top of the machine. I often had the job of sitting at the top of the machine making sure the pastilles flowed down into the machine without getting stuck. They were then sealed in a bag and went down a conveyer for packing. The supervisor on this floor was called Marion and she had been there for quite a long time I think. On what we called the back alley was an older woman who I think was called Cissy and part of her job was emptying damaged or old bottles of medicine, disinfectant and tablets. I think! I remember the lift as being a bit rickety and I didn`t like using it, but then again I didn`t need to as there were stairs. I left Parkinsons when I got married and I remember they had a collection for me and one of the presents was a lovely pink bedspread from the Diana Cowpe factory. I would love to hear of anyone who was there at the time I worked there. My maiden name was Ainsworth.

    1. Hullo Sandra. Thanks for your reminiscences. Yes, I remember that lift ~ it was still going in 1983 when the firm finally closed, it was always quite an adventure going in it. The whole place seemed ricketty to me ~ I'm sure there were bits of machinery still in use in 1983 that were over 100 years old.
Sorry it's taken me so long to notice your message.
I'd also be glad to hear any more memories from former employees of Parkinsons Ltd.
